Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or not quite like yourself, therapy can offer a space to understand what’s going on and find a way forward, at your pace.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a gentle starting point. We’ll talk about what’s brought you to therapy and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to share everything straight away.

Do I need to have a diagnosis?

No, many people come to therapy without a formal diagnosis. You’re welcome exactly as you are.

How long will therapy take?

This depends on your needs and goals. Some people come for short-term support, while others choose longer-term work.

How do you work in therapy?

I use an integrative, trauma-informed approach, which means I draw from different therapeutic models depending on what feels most helpful for you.

What are cognitive and behavioral approaches?

These approaches focus on the connection between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

Together, we might explore patterns such as overthinking, self-criticism, or avoidance, and gently work towards developing more helpful ways of responding.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

Trauma-informed therapy recognizes how past experiences can continue to affect how you feel, think, and relate to others in the present. We work at a pace that feels safe, helping you make sense of these experiences without becoming overwhelmed.

What is attachment-focused work?

Attachment-focused work explores how early relationships may shape the way you connect with others, including patterns around trust, closeness, or emotional safety. Understanding these patterns can help you build healthier and more secure relationships, both with others and yourself.

What is inner child work?

Inner child work involves gently exploring earlier experiences and unmet emotional needs that may still be influencing how you feel today. This can help you develop more self-understanding, compassion, and a greater sense of emotional balance.

How does therapy help with self-esteem?

Therapy can help you understand where self-critical thoughts or low self-worth may come from, and begin to shift how you relate to yourself. Over time, this can support a stronger sense of confidence, self-acceptance, and emotional resilience.

Is everything confidential?

Yes, everything you share is confidential, with a few legal exceptions which will be explained clearly before we begin.
